ASA 102 is offered as a weekend class. 2 days on the water training in New York Harbor. Upon completion you will earn your Basic Keelboat 2 Certification.
What You'll Learn
ASA 102 Basic Keelboat Sailing 2 is designed for sailors who have completed ASA 101 and are ready to sharpen their skills before moving on to coastal cruising. Building on the fundamentals from ASA 101, this course focuses on boat handling, seamanship, and decision-making in a wider range of conditions.
Through hands-on instruction aboard our J/29 keelboats, you’ll gain the confidence and practical experience needed to handle a boat in more varied conditions on New York Harbor.
During this course, you will learn:
- More advanced sail trim and sail handling techniques
- Docking and departing under a variety of wind conditions
- Maneuvering under power with confidence
- Reefing sails for changing weather conditions
- Anchoring techniques and anchorage selection
- Rules of the road and right-of-way situations
- Basic coastal navigation using charts and aids to navigation
- Crew communication and teamwork under sail
