Designed for sailors who dream of chartering their own yacht, this program places special emphasis on developing the confidence, competence, and real-world experience necessary to skipper both monohulls and catamarans anywhere in the world.
During this hands-on liveaboard experience, students will gain practical knowledge and experience in:
- Advanced sail handling and boat systems
- Anchoring and mooring techniques
- Docking and maneuvering under power
- Navigation and coastal passage planning
- Weather interpretation and decision making
- Crew management and safety procedures
- Provisioning and living aboard comfortably
- Overnight passages and watchkeeping
- Catamaran-specific handling characteristics
- Systems management including electrical, water, refrigeration, and marine sanitation systems

Charter Ready Certification

Prerequisite
ASA 101 Basic Sailing and ASA 103 Coastal Cruising Certifications or equivalent experience
Course Format
Live-aboard Experience
Students remain aboard the yacht throughout the program, gaining valuable experience in:
- Cabin organization
- Galley operation and meal preparation
- Water and electrical conservation
- Overnight anchoring
- Watchkeeping
- Daily yacht maintenance
- Living comfortably aboard during extended cruises
This real-world experience is one of the most valuable aspects of the course and builds the confidence needed for future charter vacations
Daily Schedule
Each day combines classroom discussion with extensive hands-on training, allowing students to immediately apply new concepts on the water.
Training includes:
- Morning weather briefing and passage planning
- Boat systems and safety checks
- Underway sailing and navigation
- Docking and maneuvering practice
- Anchoring and mooring exercises
- Lunch aboard
- Afternoon sailing scenarios
- Evening debrief and preparation for the next day’s voyage
