Do I need any sailing experience to get started?
Not at all! Our ASA 101 course is designed for complete beginners. You'll learn everything from the basics of sail trim and boat handling to docking and navigation, with plenty of time at the helm under the guidance of an experienced instructor.
What ASA certifications do you offer?
We offer the full American Sailing Association progression: ASA 101 (Basic Keelboat), ASA 102 (Basic Coastal Cruising), ASA 103 (Coastal Cruising), ASA 104 (Bareboat Charter), ASA 105 (Coastal Navigation), ASA 114 (Cruising Catamaran), and ASA 201 (Basic Keelboat Instructor Qualification). We also offer a combined ASA 104/114 trip for sailors ready to charter bareboats and catamarans anywhere in the world.
What's included in the course price?
Course pricing includes all course materials, your textbook, and all ASA testing and registration fees — there are no hidden extras. Prices range from $720 for ASA 101/102 up to $3,500 for our combined ASA 104/114 catamaran trip in St. Martin.
What happens if I don't pass my ASA certification?
It won't happen — and if it somehow does, we've got you covered. Every course includes a free retake of your certification at no additional cost. We keep class sizes small (4 students per instructor) specifically so everyone gets the hands-on time they need to pass with confidence.

What happens if the weather is bad on my scheduled day?
If severe weather forces us to cancel an on-water session, we'll get you back on the water for a free makeup day — on us. Your safety always comes first.
Can I keep sailing after I'm certified?
Absolutely — in fact, that's exactly what our membership program is for. Once you're certified, you can join True North's sailing club for unlimited club sailing*, access to our fleet of J/29 sailboats, racing, skills clinics, and a whole community of fellow sailors.
